The Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System for cotton is an in-crop system that utilizes herbicide-tolerant trait technologies to help maximize yield potential, weed control, and cotton quality. The cotton technologies linked to this system are Bollgard II® XtendFlex® cotton technology and Bollgard® 3 XtendFlex® cotton technology. They are triple-stacked herbicide tolerant technologies with tolerance to dicamba, glyphosate, and glufosinate herbicides. Cotton tolerance to these three herbicides, each with a different site of action, provides for a weed management system that is flexible for herbicide selection and tank-mixing. The herbicide combinations, where approved, can be used for pre- and/or post-plant weed management. Additionally, Bollgard II® XtendFlex® cotton technology provides two unique Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.) proteins and Bollgard® 3 XtendFlex® cotton technology provides three unique B.t. proteins to protect cotton bolls from Lepidopteran insect pests.
One herbicide linked to this in-crop weed management system is XtendiMax® herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology (Restricted Use Pesticide). The label for XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology must be read and followed*. The herbicide provides outstanding weed control in fields planted to dicamba-resistant cotton products.
*Growers/applicators MUST read and follow the labels of ALL products applied to XtendFlex® cotton. XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology and products with XtendFlex® Technology may not be approved in all states and may be subject to use restrictions in some states.
General Weed Control Guidelines
For best management, a residual herbicide should be used prior to planting to hold back weed emergence. Emerged weeds should be managed before they become too large for control to reduce the opportunity for survival and the potential development of herbicide resistance. Certain residual herbicides can be tank-mixed with Roundup® brand agricultural herbicides. Refer to the product label for tank-mixing partners and instructions for use. To successfully control weeds, at least two herbicide applications per season should include a residual herbicide. Recommended in-crop residual herbicides for cotton include Warrant® Herbicide and Dual Magnum®.
Applicators may use XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology only in states that have approved the product. Individual states may require additional precautions and instructions that do not appear in the federal label for the use of XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology. Applicators must have all federal labeling with them at the time of use, they must read and follow all label directions, and they are required to attend dicamba application training. State regulatory agencies must be contacted for the most current local guidelines for use in the area where an application is to be applied. Spray nozzles and tank-mix partners must be approved for use with XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology. A current list of approved nozzles and tank-mix partners can be found at XtendiMaxApplicationRequirements.com.
In-crop applications of XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology to cotton with Bollgard II® XtendFlex® cotton technology and Bollgard® 3 XtendFlex® cotton technology can be made in approved regions from cotton emergence up to mid-bloom stage or no more than 60 days after planting*, whichever occurs first. The maximum and minimum use rate for a single, in-crop application is 22 fl oz/acre (0.5 lb a.e. dicamba). For best performance, weeds should be controlled when they are less than 4 inches in height. A maximum of two in-crop applications can be applied but must not exceed a total of 44 fl oz/acre (1.0 lb a.e. dicamba) for the season. Should XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology be used in a preplant burndown program, then the combined total per year for all applications must not exceed 88 fl oz per acre (2.0 lb a.e. dicamba).
*There may be additional use restrictions in place for XtendiMax® with VaporGrip® Technology in certain states. Please visit the XtendiMax® State Approvals Map, which provides updated information on applicable state regulations and FIFRA Special Local Need labeling, and states that have approved in-crop applications of XtendiMax® with VaporGrip® Technology in cotton with XtendFlex® Technology.
