With skillful farm management, tailored product solutions and some relief from Mother Nature, farmers achieved impressive results in the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) 2019 National Corn Yield Contest despite a challenging year. Farmer Drew Haines from Middletown, Maryland, achieved the top non-irrigated yield of 422.35 Bu/A with DEKALB DKC68-69RIB Brand Blend. This is the highest non-irrigated yield in this year’s contest.

DEKALB corn in the 2019 contest can be attributed to the skilled management practices of the farmers and tailored, integrated product solutions, including exclusive, high-performing seed genetics. He added that these farmers are driven to succeed with consistent and reliable products broadly adapted to stand up to environmental stresses.
Overall, in this year’s contest, farmers who planted DEKALB® corn captured eight of the 27 national awards and 182 first through third place awards at the state level, 31 of which yielded 300 Bu/A or higher.

Many farmers across the country experienced variable and extreme conditions this season. Uitenbroek said yield contests, such as the NCGA National Corn Yield Contest, strengthen the agriculture industry by pushing farmers to learn how to manage adverse conditions, discover improved techniques and innovate for a better future.
